of pudding basin shape, incised in the round in three tiers with the inscription and date HERE LITH THE HARTE OF JOHN PECK AD.1562 (sic), the words intersected by incised circles, the cover cast in high relief with a Maltese Cross -- 5in. (12.7cm) high, 6in. (15.2cm) at widest point

Lot Essay

The British Museum hold a lead heart burial urn dated 1586, of similar pudding basin shape. Their example bares similarities in that the inscription is also incised in three tiers, reads: HER LITH THE HARTE OF SIR HENRY SYDNEY L. P. ANNO DOMNI 1586, here the words are intersected by heart-shaped motifs. The cover with arms within the Garter.
