Lot Essay

A princess reclines in royal ease as one attendant massages her hand, and the other provides her with food, drink and perfumes. It is a brisk night, and the lady is positioned on a lush silk cushion with a warm blanket draped over her legs. Compare the present painting to a similar composition in an eighteenth-century Mughal album painting at the Royal Collection Trust (acc. no. 1005069.ae).
