Lot Essay
Launched in 1982, reference 56023 was the first quartz, mid-sized Royal Oak. Measuring 36mm, the timepiece is suitable for a large array of wrist sizes, in comparison to the traditional “Jumbo” Royal Oak at 39mm. The present lot is completely constructed from 18k yellow gold, attributing a substantial weight and presence. The watch also has a grey Tapisserie dial which adds a subtle, yet dynamic element to the timepiece. What makes the present reference 56023BA interesting is that the watch has a quartz movement paired with a seconds hand. Most quartz Royal Oak’s are slim and exclude the seconds hand, yet the robust, hefty construction along with the seconds hand remain in the present lot.
