Lot Essay

Originally introduced in 1976 as reference 3700, the Patek Philippe Nautilus was a groundbreaking watch that strived for luxury and modernity through the use of steel and an integrated bracelet. Over the decades, the timepiece underwent minor changes until the introduction of references 5711 and 5712 in 2006. The models marked the 30th year anniversary of the storied timepiece and signified a new era for the Nautilus.

Fresh to market and from the original owner, the present lot reference 5712R-001 is a contemporary wristwatch crafted from 18k rose gold. The case has a modern three-part construction rather than the original monobloc case, allowing for easier serviceability along with a sapphire case back to view in-house caliber 240 PS IRM C LU. The watch has an attractive, asymmetrical dial configuration to display the date, moon phases, power reserve, and running seconds. Discreetly tucked away near 5 o’clock, is an elusive Tiffany & Co. signature, exponentially elevating the desirability, rarity, and collectability of this incredible lot. Reference 5712R-001 is fitted on an integrated strap, allowing for this versatile timepiece to be worn in a broad array of circumstances.
