Lot Essay

Cette statue se caractérise par une patine riche et profonde, qui témoigne de son utilisation répétée et de sa grande ancienneté. Ses qualités figuratives abstraites comprennent la tête semi-lunaire, qui porte deux yeux inégaux, séparés par des marques en pointillé au centre du visage. Le motif strié à l'arrière de la tête accentue la nature géométrique dynamique de cette pièce. Le corps de la figure est compact : les bras sont tronqués et les courtes jambes légèrement pliées. La pièce exprime l'inventivité formelle, l'habileté créative du sculpteur. La géométrisation des formes illustre à merveille la prodigieuse modernité atteinte par l'archaïsme de l'oeuvre.

This figure is characterized by its rich, deep patina, a testament to its repeated use and significant age. Its abstract figural qualities include the semi-lunar head, which bears two uneven eyes, separated by dotted marks down the center of the face. The striated pattern on the back of the head accentuates the dynamically geometric nature of this piece. The body of the figure is compact: the arms truncated and the short legs slightly bent. Overall, the piece expresses the sculptor’s formal inventiveness and creative adeptness. The geometry of the forms is a perfect illustration of the extraordinary modernity achieved by the archaism of the piece.
