Lot Essay

Pair of rooster and hen are known in several variations. A pair is in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, Ayers, 1990, cat. 177. Compare also with a cockerel illustrated in Christiaan J. A. Jörg, Fine & Curious, Japanese Export Porcelain in Dutch Collections, Hotei Publishing, 2003, cat. no. 360 and another pair illustrated in John Ayers, Chinese and Japanese works of Art in the collection of her majesty the Queen, London, 2016, ca. nos. 1525 and 1526.
