Lot Essay
Another silver-mounted glass wine barrel engraved with arms and monogram of Henry Vane-Tempest was sold Bonham's, London, 1 October 2003, lot 110. These barrels were likely acquired by Vane-Tempest after he inherited the baronetcy from his father in 1794. The remarkable glass barrel demonstrates the glassblower's exceptional skills, and was likely made at one of the glassworks on the Tyne, at Newcastle, near the workshop of the silversmith, John Robertson I.
