THE WATCH CASE WITH MARK OF JANE GALLANT, LONDON, 1760- AFTER 1773; THE MOVEMENT SIGNED JS HUBERT, LONDON, NO. 777, CIRCA 1760-1770
The case pierced with scrolling foliage and decorated with enamelled ribbon-tied bouquet of flowers and scattered flowers on reeded ground, with diamond set thumbpiece, marked inside the cover and base with maker's mark only; with gilt brass verge movement, chain fusée, pierced and chased cock and foot, turned baluster pillars, repeating on a bell, silver dust cover, white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, pierced gold hands, pierced and chased inner case, signed on dust cover and movement, with later velvet case

Jane Gallant is recorded in A. Grimwade, London Goldsmiths, 1697-1837, Their Marks and Lives, London, 1976, no. 1344 as having entered a mark as a smallworker on 25 May 1760. She appears in the Parliament Report list of 1773 as a watchcasemaker.
