A GEORGE II SILVER COFFEE POT
MARK OF THOMAS ENGLAND, LONDON, 1741
Baluster shaped and on spreading circular foot, chased with scrolls and rocaille on a matted ground, applied with winged masks, the body cast and applied with vine, rocaille and mask cartouches hung with flower, foliate scrolls and rocaille garlands, all on a matted ground, one cartouche engraved with a coat-of-arms, the other with a crest, the scroll spout with rocaille and acanthus decoration, the hinged domed cover with leafy bud finial, fully marked under base, cover with maker's mark and lion passant
9 7/8 in. (25.1 cm.) high
42 oz. 18 dwt. (1,335 gr.) gross weight
The arms are those of Rous impaling Bedingfeld, for Sir John Rous, 5th Bt. (b.c.1727-1771) and his wife Judith (d.1794), eldest daughter of John Bedingfeld, whom he married in 1749. He succeeded to the Baronetcy in 1735 and was High Sheriff of Suffolk 1759-1760 and M.P. for that county in 1768.
