Sale room notice
Lucia Tantardini has recently proposed an attribution of this drawing to Giulio Cesare Procaccini, who would have been ‘informally apprenticed’ with Aurelio Luini in the years preceding the latter’s death in 1593 (‘Giulio Cesare Procaccini’s earliest known drawing and his contacts with Aurelio Luini’, The Burlington Magazine, CLXV, no. 1441, pp. 413-419).
The drawing appears to by the same hand as several drawings by Aurelio Luini, such as those sold Christie's, London, 6 July 2004, lot 37; and Sotheby's, London, 6 July 2010, lot 10.
