Abbildungen der Wanzen mit Beschreibungen. Erlangen: Joann Jacob Palm, [1800-1811].
First German edition of an uncommon entomological work containing 20 hand-coloured engravings. RBH records no copies with coloured plates. The author, a German physician, botanist, entomologist and illustrator, died at the age of just 28. A Latin edition, entitled Icones cimicum descriptionibus illustratae, was published simultaneously. Nissen ZBI 4439.
5 parts in one volume, quarto (246 x 206mm). Title to part II, dated 1801, used as a general title for the whole. 20 engraved plates coloured by a contemporary hand (lacking titles to parts I and III-IV, that to part II partially erased, some spotting to text, a few plates lightly browned). Contemporary marbled sheep, spine richly gilt, leather spine label gilt, patterned endpapers (light wear at extremities, small portion of fading to upper board). Provenance: Josef Schmidberger (Austrian entomologist and botanist, 1773-1844; inscription on blank endpaper).
