Lot Essay

The larger pendant is very similar to one carved from jade of similar grey-green color illustrated by J. F. So in Early Chinese Jades in the Harvard Art Museums, Cambridge, 2019, pp. 220-21, no. 27A, where it is dated late Eastern Zhou period, 400-300 BC. The smaller pendant is similar to an example of comparable date carved from light brown jade illustrated by J. Rawson in Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing, British Museum, London, 1995, p. 270, no. 17:10.
