Lot Essay

The present table is a variation in design for the standard form, whereby round-section legs are joined by humpback stretchers and supported by finely carved ruyi-form struts. A table of identical design is illustrated in Wang Shixiang, Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture: Ming and Early Qing Dynasties, Hong Kong, 1990, p. 81, no. B45. A huanghuali square table of identical design, but slightly shorter in height, was sold at Christie’s New York, 13 September 2019, lot 900.
