Lot Essay

The present censer was intended to function as the centerpiece for a five-part garniture. Compare a similar Daoguang-marked tripod censer, but with blue and white decoration, sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 1 June 2016, lot 3342, and another example with a pink ground, sold at Sotheby’s New York, 13 September 2017, lot 35.
