The jardinière is inscribed in iron red on the body with three characters reading Dayazhai, beside an oval mark reading tiandi yijiachun (springtime in heaven and earth, one family).

Lot Essay


A slightly smaller (16.5 cm. wide) purple-ground Dayazhai jardinière and stand of the same pattern is in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, and illustrated in Gongyang yuci, Beijing, 2007, p. 211, no. 51 (lower), where another jardinière and stand of the same pattern, but on a white ground, is also illustrated, no. 51 (upper).
