P. G. Wodehouse
WODEHOUSE, P. G. (1881-1975). The Prince and Betty. London: Mills & Boon, Limited, 1912.

A remarkable presentation copy of the first English edition, inscribed by Wodehouse to his parents in the month of publication: ‘To Father & Mother with love from Plum May 1912’. This early Wodehouse work was first released as a serial in the Strand Magazine from February to April 1912 before being published in book form, first in the United States and then subsequently in the United Kingdom 3 months later in May 2012. McIlvaine A15b.2.

Octavo. 32pp. of publisher’s ads at end (scattered light spotting heaviest to earlier leaves, marginal tear and creasing to B1, a few leaves lightly dog-eared). Original red cloth, upper cover lettered in black, spine lettered in gilt, publisher’s device stamped in black on back cover (spine a little rolled, a few marks to covers, extremities very lightly rubbed, a little heavier at spine ends, hinges cracked but holding and evidence of restoration with some residual glue visible at the gutters of the first gathering). Provenance: authorial presentation inscription dated May 1912, to his parents.
