Lot Essay

Bowls in this inverted bell-shape form depicted with a continuous scene of immortals are extremely rare. Compare to a similar example from the Tianminlou Collection, sold at China Guardian, 11 June 2023, lot 2892. Compare also a Jiajing blue and white cup of similar form but decorated with The Seven Sages of Bamboo Grove on the exterior, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Blue and White Porcelain with Underglaze Red (II), Hong Kong, 2000, no.137.
