Lot Essay

Yuan-dynasty ewers of this form in white glaze are extremely rare. Compare to a blue and white ewer with somewhat similar shape, painted with a pair of phoenix, sold at Christie’s London, 15 June 1998, lot 92.

The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no. P123m88 (13 September 2023) is consistent with the dating of this lot.
