Lot Essay

The seal face is carved on the seal face with a seven-character inscription in relief reading Binfeng wuyi nianminyi, ‘Thinking of the people, whom we rely on’.

The impression of the current seal is included in Qingdai dihou xiyin pu [An Album of Impressions of the Qing-dynasty Emperors and Empresses’ Seals], Qianlong juan, vol. 1, p. 41 (fig. 1), Jiaqing juan, p. 75, and Daoguang juan, p. 67.

The impression of the present seal can be found on the preface of the Tilling and Weaving album painted by Chen Mei, and the ‘Rearing silkworms’ leaf from this album (fig. 2).
