Lot Essay

It is customary for the groom’s family to present a suite of gold jewellry as a betrothal gift to the bride, expressing their heartfelt welcome of the bride into the family. This wedding jewellry also serves as a dowry and can indicate the social and affluence status of the family.

The current lot is a suite of jadeite jewelry of matched emerald green tone custom ordered by the groom's parents as a wedding gift, its composition is known as ‘Four Pieces’, with an additional brooch. The combination of the phoenix and flower motifs represent beauty, prosperity and happiness for the bride. The presentation wood box is further carved with two confronting phoenixes above a lotus, with a sealed red envelop attached to the bottom of the box. Together as a set, the lot symbolises genuine wishes and blessings for the newlyweds to have a happy, prosperous and fertile marriage.

The result of jadeite testing (certificate no. SJ226526; 10 October 2023) from Hong Kong Jade & Stone Laboratory Limited shows the central floral pendant of the necklace is natural jadeite.
