The sitter was the eldest daughter of Sir James Long, 5th Bt. (1682-1729), Member of Parliament for Wiltshire, and his wife the Hon. Henrietta Greville (1683-1765), daughter of Fulke, 5th Baron Brooke of Beauchamps Court.
