Lot Essay

Henry Steinberg was an avid collector of Lichtenstein works. He consulted with Mary Lee Corlett for The Prints of Roy Lichtenstein in 1991, the National Gallery of Art, a Catalogue Raisonne, 1948-1993, and is expressly acknowledged in the book. Crak! was published to announce Lichtenstein's exhibition at Leo Castelli Gallery in 1963. (Corlett p. 255) Steinberg also consulted on Ernst A. Busche’s Roy Lichtenstein, Das Frühwerk 1942-1960, in which five prints from his collection are illustrated.
