Lot Essay

The present table is a direct copy of Jean-Henri Riesener's original supplied in 1780 for Marie-Antoinette's cabinet intérieur at Versailles. This highly popular model was produced by the preeminent ébénistes of the mid-to-late 19th century, including makers like Henry Dasson, E.-Guillaume-Edmond Lexcellent and Gervais Durand, an example of which sold Christie's, New York, 21 October 2015, lot 76 ($43,750).
