Lot Essay

Engraved on this gem are two nude wrestlers, with a draped trainer on either side; one holding a staff and the other with a palm branch for the victor. At the center is a draped herm. The gem is mounted as a ring in a 19th century gold setting; the interior with the hallmarks FW and 18c.
