Lot Essay
Angelus plays on its name with one of the greatest Bordeaux wine, Château Angelus. The unique dial of Chronodate Gold is made from freeze-dried wine lees of this Saint-Emilion estate, 2022 vintage.
Above and beyond perpetuating tradition, watchmaking and wine share geographic ties that define them. The terroirs of Bordeaux express themselves through a whole spectrum of aromas depending on their exposure, soil, growing method, fermentation style and maturation. Swiss watches draw on a limited and restrictive geographic area, giving rise to traditional processes that ensure horological excellence.
Chronodate Gold x Château Angelus is the fruit of a delicate blend. Its dial has been made from freeze-dried lees from the 2022 vintage, named “Le Majestueux” (the majestic). This powdered wine is used as is, delicately deposited on the base of the dial. These lees alone give the piece all its texture and colour. At 6 o'clock, there is a red-gold applique bearing a faithful engraving of the Château’s bell.
COLLABORATION
Angelus and Château Angelus have joined forces for the worthy cause of Only Watch to offer a full, hedonistic experience combining elements of watchmaking, winegrowing, gastronomy and winemaking. Chronodate Gold x Château Angelus will be presented alongside an Imperial bottle of “Angelus”, 2012 vintage. Three bottles of the “Grand Vin Blanc”, which are never released for sale and only gifted on rare occasions, will also be included, along with an invitation by the owners to Château in Saint-Emilion, for a discovery of this family-owned estate.
HISTORY OF THE BRAND
Contemporary, independent, free and creative, Angelus combines the codes of its century-old watchmaking history with its firm ultra-contemporary footing. Based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the brand is advancing on solid foundations as attested by its ability to create flying tourbillon skeleton calibres and its established chronograph culture.
With a consummate sense of ergonomics and interplay of materials, Angelus designs timepieces with avant-garde constructions that adroitly go hand-in-hand with the watchmaking icons of its past
