Lot Essay
Mosaïque II is an exceptional timepiece, the quintessence of Genevan high craftsmanship, in platinum with a diameter of 41mm, decorated with a dazzling mosaic of stones and powered by the fabled 1304 movement signed F.P.Journe.
“Touching eternity” – Stones extracted from the depths of the Earth to draw a lotus flower. A delicate mosaic, the result of rare Geneva savoir-faire dedicated to beauty and harmony. A dazzling work of art whose refined mosaic magnifies its mechanical perfection. More than 1,000 hours of work by the expert dial makers of Les Cadraniers de Genève and the case makers of Les Boîtiers de Genève, 12 different métiers d’art – crafts akin to art – were involved, the aesthetic of watch designer Eric Giroud, a mosaic of stones that upends the traditional rules of creation, and the legendary caliber 1304 signed F.P.Journe.
This unique watch, made of platinum – refined and sophisticated, offering only the illusion of simplicity – crystallizes all the values of excellence held dear by the Barbier-Mueller family. To precision and ingenuity, a passion for art, the emotion of a rare object as a means of expression, the deep attachment to Geneva and its métiers d’art.
COLLABORATION
Exclusive collaboration with François-Paul Journe who has agreed to equip the watch with the legendary 1304 caliber designed, produced and assembled in Geneva by the Manufacture F.P.Journe.
HISTORY OF THE BRAND
The Geneva-based Barbier-Mueller family, known worldwide for its collection of primitive arts, initiated the project of a watch celebrating its passion for history, decorative arts and the excellence of exceptional savoir-faire. The project took shape in a very small committee, guided by Stéphane Barbier-Mueller and personally supported by his friend F.P.Journe, that relied exclusively on the high-caliber Genevan craftsmanship of the likes of Les Cadraniers de Genève and Les Boîtiers de Genève, for the dial and case, respectively. The result was an inaugural creation, MOSAÏQUE, presented at Only Watch 2017. The initiative would be renewed five years later in 2023 with a dazzling second creation, even more complex, again supported by F.P.Journe, primus inter pares of the independent watchmakers, and given a distinctive visual identity by Geneva-based designer Eric Giroud. Thus was born MOSAÏQUE II, a work of art reserved for a circle of discerning collectors and whose extreme outward refinement magnifies the mechanical perfection inside.
