CHINA, QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The monkey cast kneeling on one knee, its head raised and arms and hands held aloft in gesture, with a turquoise 'leaf' collar and a pale yellow and black animal skin tied around its hips, the white body patterned with gilded 'curls', the underside of the right foot and the left knee pierced
5 ¼ in. (13.3 cm.) high

The present lot bears close comparison to the cloisonné enamel figure of a kneeling monkey on its stand from the collection of T.B. Kitson sold at Sotheby's, London, 30 May 1961, lot 396. A related cloisonné enamel monkey holding a peach sold at Christie's, London, 19 June 1967, lot 154.
