This fabulous and incredibly rare Vacheron Constantin wristwatch from the Métiers d’Art Collection is a work of art of the highest caliber. The dial features a beautifully rendered depiction of the ‘Band Tailed Pigeon’ taken from John J. Audubon’s ‘Birds of America’ in ‘Grand Feu’ cloisonné enamel, signed and dated ’96 by artisan master enameller Muriel Séchaud.
Timepieces from this remarkable series are very rarely offered at international auction, this example is presented in exceptional like new condition with even the original sticker still remaining on the caseback. It is also accompanied by the full set of accessories.
The chief glory of this superb and colourful timepiece is the magnificent hand-made cloisonné enamel dial by Muriel Séchaud. The wonderful and delicate tonal shades used by Madame Séchaud in creating this masterpiece accurately captures the beauty of the two Brand Tailed Pigeons. The design itself is taken from the famous original work of the American naturalist, ornithologist and painter John J. Audubon via his book ‘Birds of America’ of 1827. The gold case features a plain polished bezel so that the sheer quality and magnificence of the cloisonné dial can be appreciated without distraction. The hinged back which is opened by means of the button in the band, reveals the inscription ‘John J. Audubon’ in homage to the great man. Beneath the hinged cover is a sapphire crystal so that the ultra-thin caliber 1120 with hand-engraved rotor can be fully admired.
