Lot Essay

During his travels, Mønsted made numerous sketches, which he then condensed into differentiated compositions in the studio. Mønsted was captivated by the light and the scenery around Lake Garda, as we see in this depiction from Torbole, where he was painting in 1909. The majesty of the snow capped mountains sit calmly above a tranquil water and beneath an idyllic blue sky.
