Lot Essay

Our present vase features a typical 18th-century silhouette, adorned with a sophisticated blend of motifs. The decoration integrates the Kangxi cracked-ice pattern with the 'brocade ball' motifs commonly found during the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods. Cloisonné enamel pieces with cracked-ice and prunus motifs are very rare. For a comparable example, one can examine a turquoise ground cloisonné enamel garniture of five pieces from the Kangxi period, decorated with cracked-ice and prunus motifs, housed in the collection of the Palace Museum in Taipei (No. C1E000240N000000000PAC).
