Lot Essay

Mottez, a student of Ingres, is considered one of his most accomplished followers. Well known for his decoration of numerous Parisan churches and frescoes for the Pavillon de Marsan in the Louvre, he also painted many portraits and intimiste scenes which illustrate his acute sensibility and skill as a colourist.
