In German. One page, 132 x 86 mm, on headed personal correspondence card. Provenance: International Autograph Auctions Ltd, 18 July 2009, lot 192.

Invoice by Freud to his psychoanalysis patient Professor Roy Grinker. Freud invoices Grinker for 22 hours of analysis at a total cost of 2200 Austrian schillings.

Roy R. Grinker Sr (1900-1993) had analysis with Freud between 1933 and 1935, the sessions being paid for through an academic grant from the Rockefeller Foundation: he published a vivid brief description of the experience, 'Reminiscences of a personal contact with Freud' (American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, 10(4), 850–854). Grinker later became a pioneer in American psychiatry, founding the University of Chicago’s Psychiatry Department. He was also a prolific author on the subject and founding editor of the Archives of General Psychiatry.
