Lot Essay

The set includes:
Plate 1 - S. Giorgio di Verona Veduto dal Poggio di Casa Muselli, by D. Valesi
Plate 2 - Li due Castelli di Verona S. Pietro e S. Felice Veduti dal Ponte Nuovo, by D. Valesi
Plate 3 - Altra Veduta della Bra di Verona, by G. A. Urbani
Plate 4 - La Piazza della Bra di Verona, by G. A. Urbani
Plate 5 - Veduta del Ponte delle Navi di Verona, by D. Valesi
Plate 6 - Prima Veduta della Piazza detta dell'Erbe di Verona, by G. A. Urbani

The present set, from the collection of the Counts of Plessen-Cronstern, was last offered at auction in 1991. Since then, no other complete set of these views has been offered at auction. Four plates from the Feltrinelli Collection were sold at Christie's in 1997 (now at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; two single plates (La piazza della Brà di Verona and Altra veduta della Brà di Verona) were sold elsewhere; and one plate is at the British Library in London. It appears that the present set is from a different edition than the other known examples, as it is the only one with etched plate numbers.
