Lot Essay

A bronze jue of similar proportions and cast with a similar narrow taotie band encircling the body is illustrated by J. Rawson in Western Zhou Ritual Bronzes from the Arthur M. Sackler Collections, vol. IIB, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1990, pp. 636-7, no. 104, where it is dated early Western Zhou.
