Lot Essay


Dalel Singh, the subject of this sensitive portrait, was son of Ranjit Dev (ca.1712-81). Another slightly earlier portrait of Dalel Singh, which shows him alongside his father and brother meeting with Amrit Pal of Basohli, was sold in Christie's New York, 23 March 1999, lot 49.
