The design is closely based on the 'Salting' rug in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (acc.no.T.402-1910). From that well-known example, this rug takes its overall conception and the poetic content of the border cartouches. The animal combat groups, though they also appear on some Safavid rugs, are not to be found on the Victoria and Albert carpet.
