Lot Essay

In 1911, the artist Albert Lipczinski and his wife Elizabeth (or Doonie as she was affectionately known), stayed at Nant Ddu, when Derwent Lees, JD Innes and Augustus John were also at the leased Nant Ddu cottage. The present lot was painted on the shores of Llyn Arenig Fawr, North Wales.

We are very grateful to Lynn Davies for her assistance in cataloguing this lot. The present work will be included in their forthcoming catalogue raisonné, Derwent Lees: Art and Life, Lund Humphries, London, spring 2025.
