Lot Essay
It is hard to think of a more appealing and stunning combination for this very rare reference 6565 than a pink gold case with a two-tone black lacquer and champagne luminous dial. Only a handful of examples are known with this case and dial colour combination. Although with normal signs of use over more than 60 years, the Oyster case remains in impressively original condition, featuring the rare classic 50s ‘thunderbird’ type bezel and Rolex Swiss-patent crown. The dial is beautifully preserved with black lacquer centre and champagne-coloured outer minutes ring. The applied baton hour indexes are faceted in an unusual design and each has a luminous dot at its outer edge. Correspondingly, the Dauphine hour and minute hands are also luminous.
This most luxurious version of reference 6565 is almost never found at auction and presents collectors with an ideal opportunity that is unlikely to be repeated in the near future.
