THE MYSTERY SET: VAN CLEEF & ARPELS’ SIGNATURE TECHNIQUE
One of the most iconic forms of the Van Cleef & Arpels savoir-faire, is the Mystery Set technique.
Patented by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1933, the magic of this innovation lies in not showing the prongs but rather in creating rails, within which the stones are meticulously set by skilled hands.
This technique, practiced by only a few artisans who guard it jealously, is very time-consuming to the point that a single cliprequires an average of 300 hours of work.
Revealed to the world in 1937 during the International Exhibition of Art and Technology in Modern Life in Paris, the Mystery Set is still today one of the most iconic signatures of the Parisian brand.
