Lot Essay

This work is a study for the oil Equation des bleus mouvants, painted in 1929-1931. The arithmetic terminology in the title for this body of works suggests that the artist was referring to Plato's cosmology, according to which geometric shapes are emblems for ideas and perfect visualizations for the immaterial in the universe.
