The elegant design of these 'Louis Quatorze' stools reflects the influence of the carvers Jean and his sons René and Thomas Pelletier, Huguenot emigrés who supplied furniture to the courts of William III and Queen Anne. Their pieces often feature tapering squared legs with gadrooned caps and feet, as seen on a giltwood side table, circa 1704-1705, in the British Royal Collection, now housed in the Bow Room at Buckingham Palace.
