Lot Essay

The way the fur is executed on this pair of cloisonné enamel buddhist lions may be compared to a pair of cloisonné enamel rabbits dated from the Qianlong reign preserved in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, nos. 23.658 and 23.630, illustrated in Béatrice Quette, Cloisonné. Chinese Enamels from the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, exh. cat., Bard Graduate Center from studies in the decorative arts, New York, 2011, cat. nos. 108 and 109, p. 54, fig. 3.42.
