Lot Essay

Exquisitely rendered, the bowl captures the 'heaped and piled' effect typical of Ming dynasty blue and white porcelains, achieved through the intentional use of darker, more concentrated cobalt accents. Embracing the Qianlong Emperor’s dual passion for tradition and innovation, the design features the bajixiang and lotus motifs, elegantly reinterpreting iconic early Ming patterns. See the Xuande bowl illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Blue and White Porcelain with Underglazed Red (I), vol. 34, Hong Kong, 2000, pl. 147.
