Lot Essay
The present bowl may be compared with the 'sacrificial blue'-glazed bowl with copper rim, Kangxi mark and period, also inscribed 'yuci chunyi tang zhen cang' to the base, in the collection of the British Museum, London, PDF.595. The inscription may be translated as 'Imperial gift in the collection of the Hall of Sincerity'. A Kangxi mark and period blue-glazed bowl with this seven-character mark in the Zhuyuetang collection is illustrated in Shimmering Colours, Monochromes of the Yuan to Qing period, Hong Kong, 2005, p 118, fig.55, where the author explains that Chunyi Tang was the studio mark of Lang Tingji (1663-1715), Governor of Jiangxi province, who supervised the production of imperial wares at Jingdezhen.
