Lot Essay

Introduced in 1997, the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Up/Down or gangreserve in German, is one of the most collectible watches from the manufacturer.

This particular example is distinguished as a 'first generation' Up/Down as it features a modest 36 mm. size case and retains the 'Gangreserve' text on the dial. The watch was manufactured for 11 years and ceased in 2008. In 2013, the brand introduced a larger 39 mm. case with slight changes in the dial.
