Lot Essay

This panel was previously in the collection of Dr. Hanns Teichert (1901-1993). Trained as an accountant and painter, he left his hometown of Dresden for Chicago in the 1920s. Teichert quickly gained success as an interior decorator and architect, working on commission for Broadway theaters and Hollywood studios. At this time, Teichert built a distinguished art collection, including the largest number of works by Diego Rivera in private hands at the time, as well as French and Italian paintings and sculptures. In the mid-1950s, he and his wife, Gloria Teichert, renovated an old prison in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, moving their extensive collection with them.
