The Roberts family were early settlers of Hartford, Connecticut. Descendants of the family held prominent positions in government offices, churches and successful businesses. The Roberts family primarily made their name through the prosperous Hartford Carpet Company, which managed numerous carpet factories. George Sr. (1810-1878), father of Mary Roberts Perkins, served as president. George Roberts Jr. (1845-1921), brother to Mary, held positions as secretary, treasurer, vice-president, and eventually president.
