Drawing his English publisher's attention to a favourable review of The Great Gatsby. 'It may have escaped your notice that a first and very enthusiastic review of my The Great Gatsby appeared in England about three weeks ago ... in the December issue of The (London) Criterion ... I call this to your attention because of the particularly favourable quality of the review'.

The English edition of Gatsby was published on 11 February 1926. Although the review in the Criterion was by Gilbert Seldes, Fitzgerald had taken the precaution of sending a copy of the American edition to the journal's editor, T.S. Eliot, a few months previously: Eliot wrote to Fitzgerald on 31 December 1925 to say that he had read it three times in a matter of days, and to alert him to the forthcoming review.
