We are grateful to Les Amis de Paul-César Helleu for confirming the authenticity of this work, which has been registered in their archive as n°: APCH AL1-8564.

There is a mention of "Eventail aux pensées" in a letter sent by Helleu to his friend Jacques-Emile Blanche in 1885 (APCH LE2-7588). The fan appears to have been ordered from Helleu by Paul Paulin, dental surgeon, sculptor and friend of many artists, for his fiancée 'Jeanne'.
