Lot Essay

The Greek artist Nicolas Ghika formed a close friendship with the poet Stephen Spender, and spent much time in Greece alongside fellow artist John Craxton and author Patrick Leigh-Fermor. Spender described Ghika's painting style as “kaleidoscopic cubist technique”.
